Cem-Kote Flex ST Applied on Bucharest Metro Station

A two-coat Cem-Kote Flex ST waterproofing system was installed on the structural slab and platform walls of a new Bucharest metro station, providing a flexible, crack-bridging membrane that performs under continuous vibration loading.

Article overview

The Gemite Technology team specified Cem-Kote Flex ST as the primary waterproofing layer for the platform slab and retaining walls of a newly built Bucharest metro station. The substrate was prepared by mechanical grinding to remove laitance and exposing the sound concrete, followed by a saturated surface-dry (SSD) wetting before product application.

Two coats were applied at a total wet film thickness of 2.5 mm, with reinforcing mesh embedded into the first coat over construction joints and around penetrations. The flexible cementitious membrane bridges hairline cracks up to 1 mm and resists the constant low-frequency vibration generated by passing trains without delamination.

Independent hydrostatic testing at 5 bar confirmed zero water transmission across the treated surfaces. The system is finished with a thin protective screed before the rail bed installation.
